What Is Sage?

Sage is a plant that's been known and used for its aromatic and cleansing properties for centuries. It's especially recognized for its role in smudging, a traditional practice where sage leaves are burned to produce smoke. This smoke is then used to cleanse spaces, objects, and people of negative energy. In the context of healing crystals, smudging with sage is often performed to cleanse and refresh the crystals, keeping their energy pure and potent.

How To Use Sage?

If you want to use sage to cleanse your crystals, you would follow these steps:
  1. Sage Bundle: First, you need to have a sage bundle or a sage smudge stick. These are tightly bound bundles of dried sage leaves.
  2. Light the Sage: Carefully light one end of the sage bundle. Let it catch flame, and then gently blow out the flame, allowing the sage to smolder and produce smoke.
  3. Set Intention: Before you start the cleansing process, set your intention. You could say something like, "I cleanse this crystal of any negativity, and allow only positive energy to remain."
  4. Cleansing the Crystals: Hold your crystal in the smoke of the sage for a few moments. Rotate the crystal so all sides pass through the smoke. This is thought to cleanse any negative energy from the crystal.
  5. Safe Extinguishing: Once you have finished smudging, make sure to extinguish the sage properly. You can press the burning end into an abalone shell or any other fireproof bowl until the smoke ceases.
  6. Store your Crystals: After the smudging process, your crystals are ready to be used. Store them in a clean, safe place until you need them.
Remember, while smudging with sage is a common practice, it's important to handle the burning sage with care to prevent any accidents. Always ensure you extinguish the smoldering sage completely when you're finished.
